Communal Clashes: Osinbajo Orders Security Beef-Up In Cross River
Hundreds of lives have been lost, with several sacked from their homes in Cross River.
Economic and social activities have been grounded as the clashes continue unabated.
But the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, who is also the 'Chief Security Officer' in the country, is no longer having it.
He has therefore directed security agencies to take urgent measures to avert a further breakdown of law and order between the Wanikade and Wanihem communities in the Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The directive was contained in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande.
According to the statement, Osinbajo also directed the National Emergency Management Agency to liaise with the state government with a view to sending relief materials to the affected communities.
“Acting President Osinbajo appealed to the warring communities to give peace a chance in order to enable the government to find a lasting solution to the crisis,” the statement added.
