Enugu Rangers repeated what Liverpool did in the UEFA Champions League over a decade ago as they came from three goals down to beat Kano Pillars 4-2 on penalties and emerge as the 2018 Aiteo Cup champions.

In the thrilling final match played on Wednesday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Pillars started the game like a house on fire as they bang in two goals inside the first 20 minutes and they added the third early in the second half.

For many, it was already game over for Rangers but the Flying Antelopes mustered a remarkable comeback.

The thunderbolt from Kevin Itoya in the 77th minute marked the turning point.

Chidera Ezeh then made it 3-2 five minutes after before Ajani Ibrahim completed the late comeback with a diving header in the 90th minute.

In the ensuing penalty kick, Captain Rabiu Ali who had scored the first goal of the match for Pillars lost his kick and his teammate Jimoh Ibrahim also did same as Ranger claimed the 4-2 win over a shattered Pillars team.

With this victory, Rangers have secured the berth to represent Nigeria at the CAF Confederation Cup next season as well as a fat cheque of N25m.
