The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, is making a request from Nigerians this Christmas.

It is not about voting for him in the 2019 general election, but it is about soldiers in Nigeria's northeast and any other location, fighting hard to restore peace in the regions.

He wants Nigerians to spare a thought for these soldiers in the front line of the war on terror.

This demand was contained in a message he posted on his Twitter page.

It read: "This Christmas, I urge all Nigerians to spare a thought for our military on the frontlines on the war on terror.

"I had cause to telephone Lt. Col. Ibrahim Sakaba’s widow this Yuletide.

"I am touched by her devotion & love for her husband who paid the supreme sacrifice for Nigeria".

Nigeria has lost soldiers in the past two months to the insurgency in the northeast and some other parts of the nation.

Boko Haram had ambushed some soldiers and killed some of them in their push to take over some communities in the region that has seen over nine years of insurgency.
