There has been a cholera outbreak in Bauchi and it has already claimed 2 lives.

The Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Adamu Gamawa, confirmed the deaths.

This followed the infection of at least 20 people with the disease within the Bauchi metropolis.

Gamawa said this while briefing newsmen on Monday that the deaths occurred over the weekend.

He said that the agency in collaboration with development partners have made adequate preparations toward preventing a possible spread.

“The State Rapid Response Team has commenced surveillance across the 20 local government areas in the state,” Gamawa said.

The agency has now written to all its ministries, departments and agencies calling for all hands to be on deck.

“The water board is to ensure a constant supply of portable water to the public and ensure environmental sanitation.

“These are keys to preventing the spread of the disease,” he said.

He advised the public not to panic, but urged them to ensure personal and environmental hygiene standards are maintained.
