One of the 'strangest' signing on deadline day in the Premier League was made by Chelsea as the London club move on from Diego Costa to Davide Zappacosta!

Despite being champions, Chelsea surprisingly failed to get most of their summer targets who instead chose to join other clubs or stay put in their old clubs.

With Antonio Conte desperate to give his squad more depth he sanctioned a move Zappacosta from Torino in a £25 million deal on transfer deadline day.

The right-back has signed a four-year contract worth around £45,000 a week after tax at Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old Italy international left Rome's Ciampino airport on a private flight for London to undergo a medical early on Thursday.

After completing his contract signing formalities for the Premier League champions, Zappacosta admitted he has accomplished his dream.

He said: “It is a dream for me to join Chelsea and play in the Premier League. I am very excited to be here and start working with the team.

“I hope I can show my quality to the coach, my team-mates and the supporters.”
