There is ‘tension’ in the air in the Abuja camp of the home-based Super Eagles as coach of the team Salisu Yusuf is getting set to name his final 23-man squad.

Nigeria is expected to beat that deadline with eight players set to be dropped from the current number in camp before the final squad is announced.

Battle for places in the final squad have been intense, and it is expected there will be a few surprises when the final squad is announced.

Camp sources told Bounce Sports that some of the newer players are already proving themselves in camp and may be picked ahead of some of the hitherto favourites stars.

The home-based Super Eagles will on Friday play their second friendly in Abuja as the coach tries to make up his mind on some of his choices for the tournament in Morocco.

They won their first warm-up game 1-0 against non-league side Water FC of Abuja last week.

The team are due to fly out of the country via Lagos on January 3.
