The chances of Ikechukwu Ezenwa going to the World Cup in Russia was given a big boost over the weekend following the man-of-the-match display.

The CHAN Eagles captain was outstanding in the nervy quarter-final game between Nigeria and Angola at the ongoing tournament in Morocco.

Ezenwa made some daring saves as the Eagles came from a goal down to beat Angola to the semi final ticket.

Among the hundreds of supporters at the Stade Ibn Batouta, Tangier, Morocco on Sunday was Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr who has promised to reward any exceptional player from the home-based team with a chance to fight for a shirt to Russia.

"I'm happy with my performance and having Gernot Rohr here watching, I believe that will help me with the senior national team." Ezenwa told journalists in Morocco.

On his part, Rohr said he was not surprised with Ezenwa's good show

“I am not surprised by what Ezenwa has done, I know him and that’s why I picked him against Cameroon and Algeria, he’s a good goalkeeper with good reflexes and great on one-on-one,” Rohr told SCORENigeria

“He showed this today, he saved three, four one-on-one situations.

“He’s a local player who is good to play for the main Super Eagles.

“It was a wonderful game, not easy, but we deserved to qualify,” he remarked.

The goalkeeping position has been identified by many as one of the weak point of the Super Eagles ahead of the Mundial.
