Central Market Shut As Kogi Women Protest Continues
The renewed protest against political violence by Ihima women in Okehi local government area of Kogi State which started on Saturday, February 16th has entered day four with the closure of central market in the area.
The women, who have been on the street in the last four days calling for total peace and retrieval of guns distributed to the youths of the community, said they cannot go to the market while their community is on fire by the guns distributed to their sons by desperate politicians.
While they were out on Tuesday for day four of the protest, the old women said since the beginning of the political violence in the community, it has claimed several lives, with fifteen houses razed, claiming properties worth millions of naira and several youths nursing the wounds sustained from gunshots.
Speaking on behalf of the women, Mrs. Abdulrahman said they can no longer seat at their houses and watch their children being killed and their houses and other valuables burnt by the thugs who were armed to cause confusion in the land in the name of politics.
She reiterated that the perpetrators of the heinous crimes must retrieve the guns distributed to their children to maim and kill themselves.
Meanwhile, the women have vowed not to rest until Governor Yahaya Bello gives an order for the retrieval of guns from their sons.
It will be recalled that the same day the Kogi women protest commenced, the Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba had cried out that his life was in danger as his security details were withdrawn.
Also recall that it took more than 24 hours before his security details were returned amidst several urgent calls put to the commissioner of police, Hakeem Busari.
