After failing to hold the Monetary Policy Rate meeting, for two consecutive occasions, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN has now confirmed that the meeting would hold from April 3 – 4.

According to CBN spokesman, Isaac Okoafor, this is contingent upon the confirmation of the MPC nominees this month.

“The new dates for the MPC are April 3 and 4. We are hoping that between now and then the members of the committee would have been confirmed by the Senate,” Okoroafor told Reuters by phone.

Due to the importance of the MPC meetings to the economy, the Senate reconsidered its stance last week on the CBN nominees and gave its Committee on Banking and Financial Institutions one week to screen them.

The nominees for the deputy governorship posts of the central bank are Aisha Ahmad and Edward Adamu, while the nominees to be considered for the MPC are Professor Adeola Adenikinju, Dr. Aliyu Sanusi, Dr. Robert Asogwa and Dr. Asheikh Maidugu.
