A 48-year-old car dealer, Akanbi Abdulrahman was contracted by Mr Ajayi Abimbola to procure a Toyota Venza car, valued N5 million.

Abdulrahman took delivery of the car but failed to deliver it to the owner.

He absconded with the car until he was caught in September after four months of being on the run.

Police Prosecutor, Insp Peter Nwangwu, narrated this incident before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday where Abdulrahman is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

He told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 31 and they contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

The law provides a three-year jail term for stealing but the accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y. O. Aje-Afunwa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N900, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Aje-Afunwa, thereafter, adjourned the case to Dec. 17 for mention.
