Buhari Should Stop Dividing Nigerians – PDP Member
There is a warning for President Muhammadu Buhari and it is coming from a member of the PDP, Segun Sowunmi.
He wants the president to know that Nigeria is still struggling to come together and live in unity and he should not use his alleged lopsided appointments to further divide the country.
Describing Baba as a leader who has been on the corridors of power for over 40 years, Sowunmi wondered why Buhari would be insensitive to the feelings of Nigerians.
He argued that it becomes more unacceptable for the president to appoint only his ethnic associates when they continue to show incompetence.
The issue of nepotism raised in the controversial letter written by ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo was the topic of the conversation during a live TV show in Lagos.
The latest of Buhari’s ‘sins’ was the announcement of a Katsina man as new Director-General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), in the person of Mr Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.
There have been stories that Abubakar retired from the services of NIA as an Assistant Director because he failed promotion exams twice.
The presidency has debunked all allegations against their new man but Mr Sowunmi believes otherwise
“If the president makes unintended – and I am being kind with that word, I could have said unintelligent – but if he makes unintelligent recruiting errors, and those errors begin to show, it is his responsibility and that of his party to figure out how to correct it.
“But they can insist, if they like, that they are not parochial, we can leave the military and go to other sectors that show their parochialism.
“You cannot say that in this country, it is only people that are directly related to you – your sister’s children, your in-laws, their children that are so well endowed to be able to take some of the most strategic responsibilities in the country.
“Nigerians want a situation where the best man will do the job and there is a level of sectionalism that can be tolerated. But if it becomes brazen, to the extent of their man, President Obasanjo saying it, they have to apologise.”
