Nigeria's President can hear the chants and calls for 2019.

The political atmosphere is so intense that citizens can barely see there are still 11 months to go.

Every year comes with its own challenges, and for 2018, the presidency believes infrastructure development is key.

In a statement seen by Bounce News on Tuesday, Buhari said in the year 2018, progress will be seen on roads, railways, power, and airport concessions.

“Our focus in 2018 is infrastructure: roads, our railway projects, power, and airport concessions. We will intensify our efforts, and you will see progress. In this regard we are very grateful for what the Chinese are doing to support us, in financial and technical ways."

Buhari was quick to add that security is also a priority for him in the new year, as more security forces have been deployed to halt the attacks by herdsmen on communities.

“Security will also continue to be a priority. We have increased the deployment of security forces, to halt the attacks by herdsmen on communities, and bring to an end the sorrow and hardships that vulnerable communities have had to endure.”

He expressed satisfaction on some progress made in the economic sector of the country.

“On the economy I'm pleased with the progress we're making, the stable Naira, falling inflation, rising external reserves, rising harvests, an improving business environment as demonstrated by our rise in the World Bank's Doing Business Index, and growing manufacturer confidence.”
