Buhari Congratulates Obaino, Says Electoral Reforms Paying Off
The people of Anambra, the Independent National Electoral Commission, election observers and security agencies have continued to receive commendation for the just concluded governorship election in the state.
This time, it is coming from President Muhammadu Buhari and he is happy over the peaceful conduct of the November 18 election in the south east state.
President Buhari said “the processes leading to the election and its peaceful conduct and outcome, have shown that our electoral reform is bearing positive fruits. This is very encouraging and I am determined to give Nigeria free and fair elections, no matter which way the results swing".
He is also delighted with the conduct of the candidates after the election results were announced, describing it as “heart-warming and a renewal of confidence in the sanctity of the ballot which deepens our nation’s democracy.”
In a statement by his spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, President Buhari urged INEC to improve on areas of logistics as the nation braces for coming governorship elections and the main general elections in 2019.
President Buhari congratulated Governor Willie Obiano on his re-election and asked him to rededicate himself to building on his achievements that endeared him to the electorate.
He believes the Governors achievements swayed the overwhelming majority of votes in his favour.
The President also assured the Governor-elect that the Federal Government was ready to work with him for the greater harmony, peace and development of not only Anambra State but the entire country.
He wished the returning governor a successful new term in office.
Governor Obiano made history in the election, after he cleared all 21 local government areas in the state to win the Governorship election.
