The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, has sent the name of Mrs Aishah Ahmad to the Senate for confirmation as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Mrs Ahmad will replace a former Deputy Governor, who retired early this year.

A statement by the President's spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, said President Buhari urged the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, to consider the expeditious confirmation of Mrs Ahmad, who would then resume work immediately.

The submission of her name is in accordance with the provisions of Section 8(1) (2) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2007, the spokesman said. 

Mrs Ahmed, 40, is the Head, Consumer Banking at Diamond Bank and Chairperson of the Women in Management, Business and Public Service.

Another list with 4 names of new nominees for the Monetary Policy Committee of the CBN was also sent to the Senate by President Buhari.

He wants them confirmed for the appointment.

They are to replace 4 members, whose tenure will end by December 2017.

The nominees are Professor Adeola Adenikinju; Dr. Aliyu Sanusi; Dr. Robert Asogwa and Dr Asheikh Maidugu.

After Senate's clearance, the new members of the Monetary Policy Committee will resume duties next January.
