President Muhammadu Buhari was absent  at the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

In his place, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo presided over the Wednesday's meeting.

The meeting, which was held inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja commenced at about 11am after Osinbajo called for the national anthem.

This is the first time Osinbajo presided over the meeting since the President returned from his 49-day medical vacation in London, United Kingdom.

The reason for the President’s absence was not known as there was no official position on the development.

Buhari’s non-appearance was a surprise to most of his Ministers who had expected him to preside the meeting.

The VP had presided over all the FEC meetings in Buhari’s absence.
