BREAKING: YouWin Beneficiaries Protest Unpaid Grants At Finance Ministry
You remember YouWin?
That’s an acronym for Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria Connect programme.
It is a business plan competition spearheaded by former minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala during President Goodluck Jonathan.
The initiative was designed to empower entrepreneurs with grants of up to 10 million naira.
So, when the Muhammadu Buhari administration came in, they kind of continued the programme and up until January this year, the government was still up to date with payment of grants to beneficiaries.
But it appears, the Ministry of Finance has lagged in the payment and now, winners in the scheme have resorted to protest to coax the government to pay.
On Monday, the winners stormed the headquarters of the ministry of finance to protest the non-payment of their grants.
The angry youths complained about the non-release of their grants which according to them had remained unpaid for about almost a year
The awardees described the development as frustrating as it is negatively affecting the business which the grant ought to have been used to support when their proposals were approved by the Federal Government.
This is a developing story. We will bring you more detail soon….
