There was apprehension in Umuahia, Abia state capital as alleged thugs attempted to take over the secretariat of All Progressive Congress (APC) on Friday.

Some stakeholders including former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzo Kalu, APC chairman Donatus Nwankpa and others were holding a meeting at Wonderland Event centre when the alleged thugs invaded the party Secretariat.

The meeting was convened to address the emerging divisions in the party.

Addressing newsmen, the embattled chairman, Donatus Nwankpa accused the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of using some APC members to destabilise the party.

"Some hoodlums led by Ikechi Imenike tried to take over the party Secretariat forcefully after he failed to usurp the leadership of APC through fraudulent court orders. We have resisted their intimidation, distractions and move by the PDP to cripple opposition in Abia State."

The party has been embroiled in crisis and factions after a high court order which dissolved the current executives.

However, the stakeholders have at different occasions debunked the court order.
