There has been a violent protest at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja.

The party allegedly refused to pay its rented crowd over the Osun governorship election declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The protesters who hurled stones at cars from outside the premises of the party insisted that their money be paid.

They said they were hired to protest INEC decision to declare as inconclusive, the September 22 governorship election in Osun State, which the PDP candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke won.

The intervention of police who fired several gunshots into the air, did not deter them as they caused serious traffic hold-up at Michael Okpara Street, Wuse Zone 5 even as party officials, visitors and journalists scampered for safety.

It was gathered that the protesters were hired by a 'contractor' who refused to pay them after mobilising them. They protested from PDP Secretariat in Wuse Zone 5 to INEC office.

Some of the rented protesters were said to be hired from areas like Mararaba, Nyanyan, Mpape, Karimo among others.

One of the rented protesters who spoke to Bounce News and gave his name as Mohammed, revealed that they were promised N3,000 each by the organiser.

"He hired us to protest the Osun governorship election declared inconclusive by INEC and after protesting from PDP National headquarters to INEC and back to the party, he refused to pay us," he told Bounce News.

He also confessed that he is not familiar with the PDP candidate and that he is not a voter in the state.

However, one of the officials of the party who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that the organiser reneged on his promise as he claimed that the crowd was infiltrated by hoodlums.

Some 'leaders' of the protesters were later ushered into the party, as the crowd refused to leave the Secretariat until they are paid.

They also barricaded the party's main gate, preventing people from going out and coming in as of 7:25pm.

At about 8pm, we received the information that they had been given N1million. The organiser is a woman.

Protest is lucrative business in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with some organisers smiling to the banks after making a fortune from the venture.
