Benue State was again in the news for the wrong reason on Tuesday.

There was a renewed attack against civilians by herdsmen that left no fewer than 14 people, including a pregnant woman, dead.

The killings happened on Tuesday in Guma and Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

After five persons, including a pregnant woman, was killed in Guma and Logo Local Government Areas, six livestock guards were also killed in Sanghev ward. Three victims of gunshot later lost their lives in the hospital, taking the total number of deaths to 14.

Governor Samuel Ortom visited victims of the attack while receiving treatment from gunshot injuries at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital.

He then summoned an emergency meeting of the state security council. The outcome of the meeting was not known at the time of this report.

Despite the law banning open grazing in Benue state, the herdsmen attacks against communities in the state have not ceased.
