Popular British comedian, Sir Ken Dodd has died at the age of 90.

The stand-up star, famous for his long stand-up shows surprisingly died just two days after he officially married Anne Jones, his partner of 40 years, on Friday.

His publicist Robert Holmes told the Press Association: "They got the registrar and were married in the house. He died two days later on Mother's Day. Anne is obviously very upset.

"To my mind, he was one of the last music hall greats."

It was gathered that the late comedian was only recently released from hospital following weeks of treatment for a nasty chest infection.

Quite optimistic he still has some time to spend on earth, the veteran comic vowed to return to his comedy career after he was discharged.

He said: 'I'm going to teach my legs how to work again, they've forgotten you know, and once I've recovered myself I'll get back to doing the job, which is the only job I've ever had.

'While I was in here I wrote some new jokes, so it should be alright.' he added.

Born in Liverpool, in 1927, Dodd became famous for his stand-up comedy routines which often song performances.
