There is pandemonium in Osun State High Court Ede over the court’s refusal to grant bail to former Acting Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof. Anthony Elujoba.

Professor Elujoba had been in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over allegation of corrupt practices and financial impropriety in the university.

The Osun State High Court, sitting in Ede on Friday, presided over by Justice David Oladimeji remanded Elujoba and the Bursar of the institution, Mrs. Josephine Akeredolu in the custody of the anti graft agency.

And the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) staged a peaceful protest on Monday against the detention of the former Acting Vice Chancellor.

By their placards, their views were clear – ‘Free Elujoba now, prosecute the real thieves and criminals’, ‘ASUU OAU says free Elujoba now’.

However, the court’s refusal to bow to pressure has now further angered the tens of supporters who thronged the court on Tuesday to witness the hearing of the bail application.

It is not yet known if the pandemonium has degenerated into any incidents of violence.
