Nerves are still frayed over the Lagos State Land Use Charge.

A second opportunity for amendment of the Act is not going down well, as some lawyers walked out of the public hearing holding in Lagos.

The chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikeja Branch, Mr Adeshina Ogunlana, and his crew left the venue of ongoing public hearing expected to result in an amendment of the Lagos state Land Use Charge (Amendment) Law 2018.

The session had barely started when Ogunlana raised a point of order.

Immediately the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, finished his keynote address, Mr Ogunlana faulted the public hearing.

"The process was rushed without adequate input from all stakeholders," he insisted.

Another claim he put forward was that the Speaker refused to recognise the letter he wrote to him on the matter.

He suggested that the hearing be adjourned for two weeks, a request the Speaker declined.

The reaction of the Speaker to his request led to the protests put forward by the lawyers who unanimously left the hearing room. 

All attempts by the House executives to pacify the NBA chairman fell on deaf on ears. He insisted that his team must leave the venue.
