A Catholic Priest abducted in Imo State has been found dead a day after he was taken.

Reverend Father Cyriacus Onunkwo was allegedly kidnapped in Orlu town in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State on Friday morning by suspected kidnappers.

He was driving when he was ordered to stop and subsequently taken away.

Police have confirmed the kidnap and subsequent murder of the catholic priest.

The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Chris Ezike, said investigations have started and that operatives are trailing the suspected kidnappers.

He said the priest's body was found in the bush around Omuma Village in Orlu East Local Government Area on Saturday.

The corpse has been identified as that of father Onunkwo, he said.

Police say the late cleric’s car was intact, with nothing removed from it.

There were no gunshot or stab wounds and there are speculations that he may have been strangled.

No arrests have been made, but the Police Commissioner told Channels TV that the police are still working to find the abductors of the priest.
