Kano Court Jails Gay Men For Homosexual Activities
His offence has been deemed ‘unnatural’ and 20-year-old Muhammad Jubril faces jail time.
A Kano Magistrates’ Court sitting at Audu Bako Secretariat, has remanded Abdullahi Mohammed, 50, and Musa Garba, 20, in prison for being homosexuals.
The defendants, however, don’t believe they have done anything unnatural and pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor, ASP Rufa’i Inusa, had told the court that one Sani Muhammad, attached to Nasarawa Local Government Area Vigilance Group, reported the case on March 5 to the Kwana Hudu Police Division, Kano.
“Mohammed and Garba were caught having unlawful sexual intercourse through the anus on different occasions,” he said.
The judge, Muhammad Jibril, ordered the remand of the defendants and adjourned the case till April 11.
Same sex marriages and relationships are against the law in Nigeria and could attract a 14-year jail sentence if found guilty.
