Founder and Chairman of Innoson Motors, Nigeria’s indigenous vehicle producer, Innocent Chukwuma, has been arrested by men believed to be operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Chukwuma was arrested in his Enugu home around 9am local time on Tuesday December 19, 2017.

“His arrest is in connection to the ongoing case he has with GTBank,” spokesperson for the company, Cornel Osigwe told Premium Times by telephone.

According to Osigwe, Chukwuma is being accused of jumping bail, but he wonder how his boss who has never been invited by EFCC, much less being arrested, would be accused of running from the law.

“He was never invited by the EFCC, we challenge them to come forward with any evidence showing that he jumped bail. This is GTBank using federal authorities to persecute an illustrious citizen who has done a lot to improve the economic development of this country.”

EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren said he has not been briefed at the time of this report.

Meanwhile, spokesperson for GTBank, Meksley Nwagboh, denied the bank’s involvement in the arrest of the Innoson Motors boss.
