A staff of the Department of the Public Prosecution, Oyo State of Ministry of Justice, Yewande Oyediran has been sentenced to seven years in jail for stabbing her husband to death.

Justice Muntar Abimbola on Monday sentenced Yewande to seven years in prison for manslaughter after over 18 months of court case.

Yewande, a lawyer, was said to have stabbed her husband Adelowo Oyediran to death in Ibadan during an argument on February 2, 2016 at their Akobo home.

Yewande was said to have stabbed her 38-year-old husband to death over claims that he fathered a child out of wedlock.

Before the final judgement, the accused had pleaded not guilty, denying involvement in her husband’s death.

But Justice Muntar Abimbola was able to establish that she is guilty of manslaughter after hearing from witnesses.

The couple had no child.

Adelowo was first stabbed on his left shoulder by his wife around 8pm, but was treated after the matter was believed to have been resolved, and returned home to sleep.

He was stabbed the second time, in the middle of the night while sleeping, but this time, on his neck, and died minutes later.
