The popular Lagos State University of Teaching Hostiptal, LUTH in Idiaraba is a ghost town

Except for some patients at the emergency units of the hospital, the facility is deserted of any health worker or patients.

This is because of the ongoing industrial action by labour unions in the health sector.

This has brought the hospital to its knees as all medical services have been disrupted at the specialist hospital.

Members of the LUTH local chapter of the associations joined their counterparts in other Federal Government-owned hospitals on an indefinite industrial action to press home their demands for improved working conditions.

The strike is coming barely a week after resident doctors called of their own strike.

Bounce News correspondent, Lekan Oladeinde who visited the hospital reports that a visit round some of the departments showed that only skeletal services were ongoing as only doctors attended to some patients.

He reports that most of the nurses and other auxiliary staff were not seen on their duty posts.

A member of National Association of Nurses and Midwives, Mrs Bunmi Adesanya confirmed to Bounce News that the strike was underway and in full implementation in LUTH.

She however noted that the executive of the union was having a meeting with the management of the hospital to see how to cushion the effects of the strike.

She added that even the nurses on duty on Wednesday were within the premises but not working.
