There has been a fire outbreak at the Eko Electricity substation located in Ikoyi area of the Lagos metropolis.

State authorities including fire-fighters and security operatives are at the scene of the incident.

The fire is reported to have started at 6:30am but the cause of the inferno remains unknown.

The General Manager, Public Affairs of Eko Electricity, Godwin Idemudia, told Aledeh.com that “It is serious. 60MVA transformer is already gone. We need firefighters service urgently before it spreads to other transformers”.

Mr. Idemudia, who is already at the scene of the outbreak, says more fire fighters are needed to put out the flames despite the heavy rain.

If left to spread, the impact of the damage may affect power supply to most parts of Ikoyi, Victoria Island and environs.
