Turaki will probably face charges of public funds misappropriation while he served as executive governor of the state.

He was declared wanted by state authorities in 2013 after he allegedly fled arrest.

An EFCC source, who confirmed the arrest to PREMIUM TIMES said Mr. Turaki has been evading court appearances forcing the court to re-issue another warrant.

The source told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Turaki won’t be released until the date of the next court sitting is fixed.

He was governor of Jigawa State in Nigeria from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007.

The accused was elected in 1999 and re-elected in 2003 on the platform of the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP).

The 53 year old is now a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
