Basketball fans were at the edge of their seats as Nigeria’s D’Tigress scaled a difficult semifinal huddle to see off Mali and qualify for the final of the 2017 Afrobasket Women’s Championship.

Nigeria beat Mali 48-47 and consequently book a ticket to the 2018 FIBA World Cup in Spain.

With 60 seconds left, the score was standing at Nigeria 48 – 47 Mali after which the host called for a timeout.

The 3rd quarter ended Nigeria 39-29 Mali, with the D’Tigress going into a tense final lap with ten points lead.

Mali quickly bridged the gap to one point in the final seconds, but the Sam Vincent girls withstood the mammoth fans supporting the host to end victorious.

In 2015, Nigeria lost in the semifinal by one point to host country Cameroon, but were able to prevent that from happening this time.

The final will be played on Sunday.
