The good job carried out by the minister of transport, Rotimi Amaechi in 2014 and 2015 to ensure President Muhammadu Buhari unseat Goodluck Jonathan, has not gone unnoticed.

Despite his demanding portfolio as minister of transport, Buhari has now saddled Ameachi with a hectic responsibility as the Director General of his campaign organization.

Buhari is seeking a second term in office under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) when his tenure ends in May 2019.

Nigeria’s general elections have been scheduled for February by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Spokesperson to the President, Garba Shehu announced Amaechi's new role on his twitter handle on Thursday.

“President @MBuhari has approved the appointment of a campaign organization for his re-election in 2019 with Hon. @ChibuikeAmaechi as Secretary/Director General.

“Hon. Amaechi was the Director General of the Buhari-Osinbajo Presidential Campaign Committee in 2014-2015 that won the elections and brought the current administration into office.

“The new Director General will announce other appointments into the campaign structure as approved by President Buhari.”

Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, now has his hands full, as APC seek to retain power against strong opposition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
