President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party were both in Abuja as at 7pm but failed to show up at the 2019 presidential debate.

Buhari, who was in Jos earlier on Saturday to continue his campaign, returned to Abuja early in the evening.

Atiku, who spent two days in the United States of America, flew into the country on Saturday but also failed to honour the debate.

Bounce News can confirm that both candidates were in Abuja as at 4pm local time.

Both candidates refused to pick calls from the organisers, as their political parties declined to comment on their candidates’ absence.

This is the first time in Nigeria's political history that the two leading political candidates will shun a debate organised by civil society and BON.

However, the three other candidates expected at the debate were present.

Oby Ezekwesili, Kingsley Moghalu and Fela Durotoye gave a good account of themselves at the debate.
