Something good may have started coming out of the botched plan to start a new national air carrier – the Nigeria Air.

Barely a week after the plan was abandoned for undisclosed reasons, the federal government decided to pay the retired workers of the defunct Nigerian Airways.

Reports reaching Bounce News said the government approved the sum of 22.68 billion naira for the payment of retirement benefits to the former workers of the liquidated national carrier.

The national carrier ceased to operate since 2003.

The amount which was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari is about 50% of the 45.3 billion-naira entitlements of the former workers of the company.

The Minister of Finance, Mrs Zainab Ahmed was said to have announced the fund release on Monday in Abuja during a press briefing held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance.

Apart from the 22.8 billion naira for the former aviation workers, she said that the sum of 20 billion naira has also been approved for the education sector.
