No boxing gloves but their football boots will be apt as the Super Eagles duo of Alex Iwobi and Leon Balogun battle it out at the Amex Stadium in the Boxing Day Premier League clash between Brighton and Arsenal.

Balogun and his Brighton teammates are desperate to end their three-game winless run by taking a point off a rejuvenated Arsenal side who only returned to winning ways last weekend.

Having started his side’s last three Premier League games, Leon Balogun is expected to start again against the Gunners and he will partner Shane Duffy after the Republic of Ireland defender returned from his three-match suspension.

After coming off the bench to score his second goal of the season at home to Burnley on Sunday,  Iwobi is also expected to return to the Gunners starting lineup after impressing off the bench, if he gets Unai Emery's nod, it will be Iwobi's 11th start of the season.

Arsenal's defensive injury crisis is set to continue on Boxing Day with Emery likely to be without as many as five players for the trip to Brighton.

Rob Holding (knee), Konstantinos Mavropanos (groin), Nacho Monreal (muscular) and Hector Bellerin (calf) are definitely out.

Emery will be hopeful that Shkodran Mustafi can shake off a hamstring issue but playing him would be a risk.

It is worthy to note that Brighton haven't won any of their last nine league games played on Boxing Day (W0 D3 L6), since beating QPR 1-0 in 2005/06.

On their part, Arsenal have lost just one of their last 13 Premier League played games on Boxing Day (W10 D2), losing 0-4 at Southampton in 2015/16.
