#BounceExclusive: How Lagos APC Women Fought Dirty At Party’s Secretariat
It was a free for all fight at the Lagos State secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as aides and supporters of the South-West Woman Leader of the party, Kemi Nelson and her Lagos counterpart, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas clashed.
The fracas left some party faithful injured and property destroyed.
Bounce News gathered from multiple sources that the fight was as a result of the supremacy battle between the duo and refusal of Nelson to vacate the office she used during her tenure for her successor.
Nelosn was the immediate past Woman Leader of the party before she became the Sout-West Woman Leader.
The disagreement between the duo started shortly after Jumoke Okoya-Thomas was sworn-in.
Nelson refused to hand over to Okoya-Thomas and also refused to vacate her office at the Lagos State party Secretariat.
All efforts made by the common friends of the duo to resolve the matter were rebuffed by Nelson.
Nelson is still not happy and she has vowed to ensure that Okoya-Thomas does not succeed as the Lagos APC Women Leader no matter how hard she tries
During Monday’s fight, which lasted for several minutes, Nelson and Okoya-Thomas aides and some of the secretariat staff were harassed and beaten.
Some office and personal belongings such as television sets, chairs, tables and computers were destroyed and mobile phones stolen by hoodlums, who invaded the secretariat.
Some of the party’s secretariat staff and executives who were around during the fight scampered for safety as some of them hid in toilets, while some offices were put under lock and key till peace returned to the secretariat.
According to a reliable source, who witnessed the encounter, she said the ugly incident took place in two phases; first was the fight between Nelson’s Personal Assistant, Ms. Ayo Alli-Balogun and Okoya-Thomas’s aide, Alhaja Biodun, while the second was the invasion of the secretariat by hoodlums, who pounced on Nelson’s aides.
The sources revealed that some executive members of the party in the state were having a meeting in the office of the state chairman of the party, Tunde Balogun, when the hhodlums stormed the secretariat.
According to the source, “what happened was that a woman works with Nelson and the PA of Okoya-Thomas met at the corridor and they exchanged words and in the course of exchanging words, two of them fought and the cloth of aide of the Lagos Woman Leader got torn.
“The woman called someone, who is her brother on telephone to tell him that she was attacked by someone and the person stormed the secretariat with some boys and went straight to Nelson’s office and started beating up people in the office.''
An aide to Nelson, Princess Oba exonerated her principal from the ugly incident, “She (Nelson) was not the one that caused the crisis. But it is being handled at the party level right now. The party leaders have intervened on the matter,” she said.
In her reaction, Okoya-Thomas urged the leadership of the party in the state to caution Nelson over her continuous harassment, intimidation and assault.
The Lagos APC Woman Leader in a statement signed by her media aide, Oladipupo Awojobi said she can no longer bear the “unwarranted harassment and intimidation by Kemi Nelson,” which she said has been manifesting since she was unanimously elected to the office of the Lagos State APC Woman Leader in May this year.
According to her, what the APC as a party needs now is unity, so that it can approach the forthcoming general elections in the state and in Nigeria with all the seriousness they deserve.
