The carelessness of a driver has sent two conductors to their early grave in New Mile 3 Gombe State.

The driver who was said to have dozed off lost control and crashed the vehicle transporting sheepskin from Adamawa to Kano state.

According to eyewitness, the driver of the vehicle who was identified by the police as Amadu Shu’aibu was said to have fallen asleep not knowing he was approaching a roundabout. He lost control and crashed the vehicle into a gutter. 

The two conductors who were seated at the back of the truck died on the spot while the driver who survived the crash was rushed to the hospital. 

The owner of the Sheepskin, Alhaji Mas'ud who spoke to Bounce News said that "It is true that we were traveling with truck loaded with sheepskin without brake and faulty clutch."

Mas'ud said he warned the driver to stop and get the vehicle fixed but he refused promising to manage the situation to Gombe where a mechanic would be called to fix the problem.

"I didn't argue much with him, but I stopped him and took another car to come and wait for them in Gombe, because I saw this accident coming.

“There is no way one can manage a loaded truck that has no brake and clutch in a journey that is more than 70 kilometers,” he said.

The Public Relations Officer of Gombe State Police Command, DSP Obed Mary Malum, confirmed the incident.

She said the command received a report from the Motor Traffic Division [MTD] of the command about the lone fatal accident that killed two people identified as Idris Shu’aibu, 25 from Jimeta Adamawa state and Amadu Muhammed, 28 of same address.

She said the accident occurred at New Mile 3 Gombe at around 0337hrs and that it involves a green and white colored canter that was transporting Sheepskin from Adamawa to Kano state.

She further stated that the driver of the vehicle Malam Amadu Shu’aibu is in a critical condition at the Federal teaching Hospital in Gombe.
