Operators of speed boats in Ebute-Ibafon in Apapa, Lagos State, on Friday appealed to the state government to repair the jetty in the area to enhance water transport.

The Chairman of the operators, Mr Olukolun Oseni, made the call when the Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Waterfront Infrastructure, Mr Gbolahan Yishawu, visited the area.

Yishawu led other members of the committee on oversight to the area.

Oseni said that boat operators in the area abandoned the jetty because it was substandard.

He said the jetty built in 2012 was also abandoned because it was not properly handed over to the operators.

Responding, Yishawu told the operators that the committee’s visit would enable it to know the state of things at the jetty and seek solutions to their problems.

"We are here to know what is going on here; we will get across to the government about your plight and ensure that the jetty is repaired.

"Our plan is to invite the contractors and the concerned ministry so that we know what to do about the jetty," he said.
