It was their usual trip and means of transportation, but on this fateful day, the unusual happened.

12 of them were onboard, unfortunately, two were not so lucky.

About 10 people were rescued, while two have been reported dead when a speedboat conveying passengers across the River Benue capsized.

An eye witness, Alh. Sadiq Buku, told our correspondent the speedboat was crossing the Karim-Lamido area to Lau Local Government trench of the River Benue with 12 people on board when the incident happened.

He said some boat divers rescued 10 persons, including the person that was riding the boat.

“Local divers were able to rescue 10 persons out of the 12. Unfortunately, two persons are still missing, and we are searching for their bodies.

“Actually, at this season of the year, the tide is high and strong, so you cannot expect them to still be alive. We are making efforts to at least recover their bodies.”

The Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, (ASP) David Misal, confirmed the incident, and said search for the remaining two passengers was still ongoing.
