Benue Killing: Buhari Wants Attackers Punished
The President is supposed to be resting but the issues Muhammadu Buhari has on his hands are quite hot.
He has condemned the recent attack on a market in Zaki Biam, Benue State, by gunmen.
He also described the attack and others like it that have occurred in different states as inhuman and unnecessary.
"We must condemn inhuman and unnecessary shedding of human blood all over the country. We seem to have lost value for human life, which is sacred.
"Man is the glory of God's creation and nobody has the right to unjustly and unlawfully take another person's life in a reckless manner," President Buhari stressed.
He enjoined all citizens to learn to live together in peace and brotherhood and not allow little misunderstandings to degenerate into heartless acts capable of straining the bonds of nationhood.
The President commiserates with the government, people of Benue State and mostly those who lost loved ones.
He prayed that Almighty God would comfort the grieving families and grant the souls of the victims eternal rest.
Now that the issue of Boko Haram insurgency is abating, arms-carrying herdsmen have become the next challenge for Nigeria's security agencies to tackle.
They have attacked several communities occupied by farmers, chased some away from their farms and turned them to grazing area.
The situation has become dire, as it poses a challenge to food security in the nation that is witnessing increasing cases of malnutrition mostly in the northeast region devastated by over seven years of insurgency.
