Champions of Belgian top-flight, Anderlecht have sacked manager Rene Weiler.

Weiler was asked to walk away after Anderlecht was left trailing in ninth place in the league after seven games.

The 44-year-old Swiss took over as Anderlecht manager in 2016 after which he won the Belgian title in his first season and led the side to the Europa League quarter-finals.

He has won just two of their opening seven matches in the Belgian top flight this season and lost 3-0 away to Bayern Munich in their opening Champions League group game.

His Argentinian assistant Nicolas Frutos will fill in the role as caretake coach until a replacement is secured.
