Another attempt by Boko Haram to take over a community in Borno State was aborted by troops in counter-terrorism operations in the northeast.

It was about 5:00 p.m. on Friday when the dissident group members arrived Arege, in Mobarr Local Government Area of Borno State.

Their target was the troops of 118 Battalion in the location, but the soldiers repelled the attack.

After exchange of gunfire, members of the Boko Haram withdrew, leaving some of their ammunition as they scamper for safety.

Troops are still combing the area to capture the fleeing terrorists.

The attack came days after Boko Haram also battled with troops in an attempt to take over Metele in Borno State. That attack was also successfully repelled.

Boko Haram terrorists appear to have upped their attacks, reducing the use of suicide bombers to attack soft targets, and then going all out to attack military formations in different part of Borno State.

They have in the past 8 years pushed for the establish of an Islamic State in the northeast and an end to Western education in the region.
