The Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari will be visiting Akwa Ibom State on Friday to flag-off her pet project, 'Future Assured Programme'.

Akwa Ibom has been in the news lately due to the inter-party crisis going on there ahead of the crucial 2019 general elections.

More than 10,000 indigenes of the state are to benefit from the Future Assured Programme.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, who briefed journalists on the visit, explained that beneficiaries are not only members of the APC as they cut across party lines.

Enang, who said beneficiaries were selected through a transparent and apolitical process by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), added that the gesture was not part of the electioneering campaigns.

His words, “The wife of the President, Aisha Buhari will be visiting Akwa Ibom State for the purpose of flagging off her pet project, Future Assured Programme in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment.

“She will be here as a guest of the All Progressives Congress family and Akwa Ibom people to flag off that programme which is an empowerment programme aimed at giving starter packs and other programmes that are undertaken by her pet project, Future Assured Project and the National Directorate of Employment.

“Other persons that would also collaborate on that programme include the Niger Delta Development Commission, all Senators representing Akwa Ibom State

"Senator Godswill Akpabio and other National Assembly members who have most of their constituency empowerment programme that would want to use that opportunity to empower their people.”

Remember that the APC has since been eyeing the oil-rich state to take it over from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The APC took a bold step in that direction by wooing the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Godswill Apkabio.
