The leadership of the Nigeria Basketball Federation is determined and committed in exploring all peaceful avenues to resolve any lingering crisis in basketball in their quest to institutionalise the sport in Nigeria

The NBBF says it is committed to exploring all peaceful avenues to resolve the lingering crisis in the federation following the elections that brought them into office.

The President of the Federation Musa Kida made this known after a mediation meeting with the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the former president Tijani Umar

Kida said that the interest of players and other relevant stakeholders whose means of livelihood depend on the game of basketball is paramount to the Federation, hence the need to be cautious while handling such sensitive issues

"We will ensure that we do our best to cooperate with all relevant authorities as directed by FIBA to find a lasting solution out of the recurrent problems associated with transition of leadership every 4 years.

"We believe that the way the case is being handled and resolved by the NOC will shape the future of basketball, its administration and electoral process in the coming years."

The President appealed to the media to ensure fairness, balance and shun negative reports capable of truncating the reconciliation process initiated by NOC.

“At this critical time, we should allow the NOC to do their jobs rather than create sensationalism from the actions and inactions of Kida or Umar.

"All over the world, it is not advisable for parties with vested interests to talk to the press when the case is still on the burner in other not to jeopardize the process of mediation.”

Kida, who values the role of the press in building of a sellable brand, assured that as soon as the peace process is concluded, the leadership of the NBBF will address a world press conference to provide answers to questions from men of the pen pushing profession
