First it was a new coach barely 50 days to the World Cup, now the Nigeria National Women's Basketball Team, D'Tigress have a new captain.

Adaora Elonu has been appointed as Captain ahead of the 2018 FIBA Women World Cup in Spain.

As one of the longest surviving members of the team; she was part of the 2017 invincible Afrobasket winning team in Mali.

She replaces the duo of Aisha Mohammed and Ezinne Kalu-Phelps.

As if that was not enough, less than 24 hours after being appointed as D’Tigress captain, she got drafted by WNBA side, Atlanta Dream swelling the numbers of WNBA players in the team to 2.

Elonu was a four-year letterwinner for Texas A&M and a member of the 2010-11 National Championship team.

Since going undrafted in 2012, the 6’1” Elonu has played professionally for CB Avenida (Spain), Galil Eliol (Israel), Beroil-Ciudad de Burgos (Spain) and CB Conquero (Spain).
