Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has agreed a one-year contract extension until the end of the 2019-20 season, with an option for a further year.

The coach with this new development has put an end to the speculation surrounding his future by formally signing his new contract at the Nou Camp on Friday morning.

Valverde replaced Luis Enrique as manager in 2017 and guided Barcelona to the La Liga and Copa del Rey double in his first season in charge.

The Catalan club are on course to defend their league title and are currently six points clear of rivals Real Madrid in La Liga, with 15 games remaining in the season.

Barcelona are also through to the last 16 of the Champions League and will face Lyon in the first leg in France on Tuesday.

Since his arrival as Barça coach, Valverde has recorded some spectacular numbers only achieved by a select few.

In his first season he won both the league title and the Copa del Rey and in 2018/19 he has already added the Spanish Super Cup to that list.

In total the coach has led FC Barcelona in 96 official matches, winning 65, drawing 22 and just 9 defeats. Of those 65 victories, 43 have come in the league, 11 in the Copa del Rey, 10 in the Champions League and one in the Spanish Super Cup.
