Reigning Grand slam champion Rafael Nadal has expressed sadness over an attack that left 14 people dead in Barcelona.

Thursday’s incident also caused injury to about 100 people.

The Spanish tennis star tweeted on Friday about the attack.

"Shattered by what has happened in Barcelona! All my support for the families affected and the city," Nadal tweeted.

After the first attack, Las Ramblas was hit by a second vehicle attack, injuring seven people.

Five suspects have been killed and security presence is heavy in the vicinity. In addition, four people have been arrested by the police in connection with the attack.
