Baby Found In Lagos Gutter Is Doing Well
In a world where some are crying to have just one child to call their own, some are happy to throw theirs away.
Residents of Orile Agege were left with mouths ajar on Thursday morning at the discovery of a newly born baby abandoned in a gutter at Funmilayo Bus Stop.
A rights activist, Declan Ihekaire, said he found the crying baby wrapped in a sack inside the dirty water at 5:30 a.m.
Ihekaire, a resident of the area, said he quickly called the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Elere Police Station, Mrs. Regina, and the Lagos State emergency response number 112.
The baby was immediately taken to the Orile Agege General Hospital for treatment.
Bounce News reached out to the hospital on Friday morning to know the state of the baby’s health.
A medical officer who spoke on condition of anonymity said that the baby girl has been placed on antibiotics.
“The baby is fine. She is feeding and has also been placed on antibiotics because she is at risk of infection considering where she was found.
“She also has multiple injuries on the right arm, but they are healing well,” the doctor said.
Ihekaire had earlier narrated how the baby was discovered.
“Around 5:30 a.m., a security man on my street banged on my gate. I came out and asked him what the matter was.
“He explained that there was the cry of a baby from the gutter outside. I followed him there and found out that it was actually a baby.
“I cordoned off the place and called the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Elere Police Station, Agege, Mrs. Regina.
“I need to show appreciation to the DPO of Elere. She’s a strong woman. Despite the fact that it was very early in the morning she still picked my call and responded swiftly.”
While a hospital nearby the scene refused to provide the child with first aid, the officials of the Orile Agege General Hospital swiftly took care of the baby.
This, Ihekaire said, showed that they were “true professionals”.
