Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says his faith as a Christian does not allow him to keep grudges against his former Vice, Atiku Abubakar, especially when he himself asks God for forgiveness daily.

Obasanjo spoke on Wednesday in Lagos during the Quarterly Business Lecture of Lagos Island Club.

“Wherever you might have offended me, I forgive “, Obasanjo said.

Obasanjo also used the occasion to reaffirm his support for Atiku’s presidential ambition.

The former President said he does not regret his previous stance against Atiku, as actions against his former vice were in national interest.

Stating reasons for endorsing his former vice, Obasanjo described him as better than incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said he believed Atiku has ‘re-discovered and re-positioned himself’ and is now good enough to enjoy his support in the next election.

Meanwhile, Obasanjo  said he stands by all what he said about Buhari’s partisanship and sectionalism.

He added that the self-professed integrity and morality of President Buhari are fake, adding that the President’s actions and inactions have exposed his claims.

Obasanjo is often consulted by politicians ahead of electioneering season. The former president famously turned his back on Jonathan before the 2015 election.

Jonathan lost the ballot to Buhari thereafter.
