The 2018 African Senior Athletics Championship is upon us and events will commence on Wednesday August 1, 2018.

Events lined up include: the opening ceremony, 100m women first round, 100m men first round, men's shut put, high jump and long jump.

But the question on the lips of some spectators has been - where are the floodlights?

The Stephen Keshi stadium, venue of the championship, does not have floodlights at the time of writing this report.

Bounce Sports took a walk around the stadium and could not see one installed floodlight even when some events are scheduled to hold after sunset.

However, according to the timetable on the official website of the championship (caaasaba2018.com.ng), events will hold till 8pm.

This have left many local and foreign officials, journalists and fans wondering how things would unfold.

There are unconfirmed reports that floodlights are being transported to Asaba from Lagos as at Wednesday morning.

Though the information could not be verified, how it would be installed and made ready for use in less than four hours seems impossible.

Meanwhile, officials have given some assurance that necessary facilities will be in place and made ready before event begins.

With over 500 athletes across Africa competing in various categories, Nigeria and Delta state authorities would need to avoid a shameful scenario.
