Asaba Tragedy: Man Allegedly Kills Self After Brutalising Wife With Machete

When Evangelist Mrs Promise Ayamekwe embarked on a journey some days ago, she had no inclination that her return would be greeted with brutality.
She is now in a critical condition after she was some inches away from her grave.
Her peril was caused by none other than the husband she loved.
It was Monday evening that the tragedy struck.
Her husband, Mr Lazarus Ayamekwe, had perfected his plan and allegedly inflicted injuries on her with a machete and allegedly killed himself afterwards.
After the incident, Mrs Ayamekwe was rushed to the Medical Centre in Asaba where she is still receiving treatment.
She has had several stitches at the intensive care unit of the hospital.
According to a close family source who pleaded anonymity, Mrs Ayamekwe returned from a journey that evening, and little did she know that the husband had prepared to kill her.
As soon as she entered their room the man attacked her with the machete, cutting her in the head first.
Her son then cried out to neighbours who subsequently informed the police. When the police arrived at their residence, they met the man on the floor almost dead.
Police said the couple were rushed to the same hospital, but Mr Ayamekwe died soon after.
According to the source, "he used the same machete to kill himself. His body has been deposited in a mortuary".
"This woman has been going through hell in her marriage," the source added.
The couple have been married for 16 years and blessed with three children. Mrs Ayamekwe has been the breadwinner of the family, and Bounce News gathered that her husband had been jobless for many years.

Evangelist Ayamekwe is the founder of the Jesus Strength Deliverance Ministry, a fast growing church in Asaba.
He had managed to secure a land for the permanent site of the church, but sources close to the family said her husband sold it off.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, confirmed the incident to Bounce News correspondent in Delta State, John Debia.
